No entraré en el cliche de decir que los Magic Numbers son una banda de peso. Bueno creo que ya lo hice, pero bueno fijemonos en este single. Un poco más rockero que lo de su disco anterior, manteniendo las gloriosas harmonías y una melodía excelsa. Lastima que parece que los seran una buena banda de singles y nada más. Bueno, mejor que no ser una buena banda en nada.

#73 The Upper Room – Black And White

A lo largo de la historia del rock en el Reino Unido, siempre ha habido ciudades que se destacan de otras por las bandas que producen y la escena músical que hay. Londres claro, siendo la capital, teniendo más gente, más lugares para tocar y a todas las disqueras, siempre esta presente, pero ahi esta Liverpool, que es donde nacio el rock británico en los 60’s, o Manchester, que desde mediados de los 90 se volvió el lugar importante para las nuevas bandas de rock y new wave (Joy Division, The Smiths, Stone Roses) pasando por el funk (Happy Mondays) hasta el britpop (The Charlatans, Oasis, Doves). En la actualidad ha habido un resurgimiento de Londres en la escena, sobre todo con las bandas indie, pero en el último par de años, dos ciudades sorpresivamente han destacado por su escena músical y sus bandas que han salido. Por un lado Sheffield, llevando el indie más alla y dandole un toque crudo y local con bandas como Arctic Monkeys, Milburn y The Long Blondes, y en el lado opuesto Brighton, una escena donde las bandas indie deciden que las cosas son mejor si suenan más arregladas, pulidas, o en otras palabras, mas fresa. Es así como Brighton nos ha dado a Brakes, The Kooks, The Pippettes y The Upper Room, quienes ocupan el número 73 en esta lista con Black And White.

#74 Franz Ferdinand – Eleanor Put Your Boots On

En la lista del año pasado, Franz Ferdinand hizo su aparición dos veces. Este año tenían 3 contendientes pero solo esta logra entrar en la lista. Una gran canción en el disco y mucho mejor la versión regrabada (que es la que esta disponible aquí para bajar). Y siempre lo dije, This Boy hubiera sido mejor sencillo que The Fallen. Por cierto, Eleanor (la de la canción) es Eleanor Friedberger, cantante de los Fiery Furnaces y novia de Alex Kapranos cuando escribió la canción.

#75 Milburn – What You Could Have Won

Tomado de su disco debut Well Well Well, What You Could’ve Won es una gran canción de este grupo de Sheffield, pero que en lo personal creo que no es la mejor opción para single, en el sentido de que al público en general no le llama tanto la atención puesto que es una canción que toma un poquito mas de tiempo para agarrarle el gusto. Pero de que es una gran canción, eso no hay duda y por eso logra entrar en esta lista en el número 75.

Musica nueva

Y antes de empezar con las listas, un poquito de cosas nuevas que uno se encuentra (y busca) por ahí…

Mumm-Ra son una nueva banda que apenas llevan dos sencillos en Inglaterra, este es el último y es el primero que es lanzado a gran escala, se llama Out of the Question y es sencillamente brillante (por si no se entendio también queria decir en la frase que era muy sencillo o sea música simple y directa jaja)

Duels son una banda de la región de Yorkshire, de ellos ya he puesto cosas por aquí y bueno aquí esta su último sencillo, Once In The Night

Seguro varios ya escucharon (y espero que hasta compraron) el nuevo disco de Jarvis Cocker. Bueno pues el primer single viene como canción escondida hasta el final, lo cuál no es muy agradable porque si la quieres escuchar tienes que esperarte varios minutos (como 30) después de la última canción. Así que mejor aquí esta, Running the World, para que no esperen tanto.
