Salidos de la siempre vibrante y creciente escena musical de Leeds, The Sunshine Underground lanzaron Commercial Breakdown a principios del 2006, con unos reviews muy buenos y parecía que el éxito venía. Por desgracia, la canción resulto muy poco comercial y el éxito no llego. Pero ellos ahí siguen y un año después el NME ha empezado a promoverlos. Tal vez todavía no es muy tarde para ellos.

Después de varios meses en que los Killers guardaron silencio, un día anunciaron en su página que su nuevo single, When You Were Young, se estrenaba al día siguiente en la radio inglesa. Ni tiempo dio de reaccionar. Todavía tardaron un mes mas en anunciar el Sam’s Town. Pero que buena canción resulto ser ese primer single, y con un video grabado en México. Normal y en vivo abajo.

#28 Snow Patrol – You’re All I Have

Justo el día que se ponen a la venta los boletos para el concierto de Snow Patrol en México, es el día que les toca entrar en esta lista (por fin!). Después de dos años de tour intenso siguiendo el éxito inusitado del Final Straw, Snow Patrol se encerraron meses en Escocia para grabar su 4to disco (si 4to porque estoy seguro que todavia muchos creen que es el segundo apenas). En el proceso, perdieron un bajista (el unico miembro original del grupo que quedaba aparte del baterista y Gary Lightbody). You’re All I Have cumplió su cometido, simple y pegajosa y un excelente primer single que hizo que la gente los recordara, y de paso llevo a Snow Patrol a tener el disco mas vendido en Inglaterra en todo el 2006. Del lado izquierdo la versión de estudio, del derecho una acústica.

En 2003, Monster Bobby, un músico, productor, dj, escritor, etc, de Brighton, tuvo la idea de hacer un grupo recordando el sonido clásico de Phil Spector y las Ronettes en los 60’s. Para esto junto a unos amigos y busco a tres chicas que tuvieran una idea y visión similar a la de él. Así nacieron las Pipettes, oficialmente un trío pero en papel un grupo de 7 personas, aunque los otros 4 se hacen llama los Casettes, que hacen posible este grupo sacado de finales de los años 50 con un toque de modernidad. Gwenno, Becki y Rose son la cara del grupo y que hacne posible este pequeño viaje a la decada de los 50’s en pleno Siglo XXI.

#30 Keane – Is It Any Wonder?

Con el Hopes & Fears, Keane conquistó el mundo. No solo tenían Europa a sus pies si no que también Estados Unidos había caido en los efectos de Somewhere Only We Know y Keane se convertía en una banda más de ese selecto grupo de bandas británicas que logran triunfar en E.U. Pero tanta fama y presión no le vino bien a Tom Chaplin, que entro en una dependencia de drogas y alcohol que lo llevó finalmente a rehabilitación, y de paso, darle un golpe severo a la carrera de Keane. Todo esto no se sabía cuando salio este single, el primero del segundo disco, y una gran canción. La catedral de la que se habla en la canción es la de Colonia, en Alemania. Keane vienen a México en Abril.

A la mitad del proceso de grabación del nuevo disco de Kasabian, los problemas empezaron a surgir y Chris Karloff, guitarrista principal y tecladista de la banda, salió del grupo. Serge Pizzorno empezó a tener mas participación incluso cantando canciones completas el (la increíble British Legion por ejemplo). Pero decidieron usar partes que Chris había dejado que sentían que valía la pena (claro, con su permiso) Una de estas cosas que dejo fue Empire, la canción, que aquí esta en el #31. Gran video por cierto.

El grupo apenas se formo a finales del 2004 y dieron su primer concierto hace menos de dos años, en marzo del 2005. ¿Porqué no hay un festival sueco realmente importante? Algo así como roskilde en Dinamarca, el Pinkpop de Holanda o el Exit en Serbia. En Suecia nada mas nada de nada y eso que es, para mí, el país mas importante de Europa musicalmente hablando, sin contar al Reino Unido claro. Pero bueno mientras sigan con los grupos buenos basta. Esta canción no se que tan bien le haya ido en Suecia, pero conmigo le fue muy bien porque me gusta mucho y por eso está en el #33, Persona Gone Missing, el primer single del cuarto disco de Eskobar.

Debo decir que me da mucho gusto que este blog se haya vuelto tan popular, digo, antes era vistiado pero nada como ahora, yo que creí que nunca serviría tanto que le puse para ver de donde visitaban y que frecuencia pero pues después de casi un año parece que sí. Así que saludos a la cada vez mas creciente comunidad argentina y peruana que viene por aquí, a la zona occidente del páis (o sea México), a los visitantes de la riviera maya claro y pues a los del df y el edomex, así como a los (poquisimos) de los estados unidos. Como agradecimiento, tratare que para lo que queda de la lista subir dos canciones. Una, la normal, y la otra alguna versión alterna o en vivo o algo por el estilo. Debo decir que ya por estos lugares se me dificulto mucho hacer la lista, puro hit y pues si fueron horas y horas de larga indecisión. Aquí tenemos a los Fratellis, que ya habían aparecido por ahi con Whistle For The Choir, y pues ahora con Chelsea Dagger, su gran hit hasta el momento y la canción que los hizo saltar esa difícil barrera de ser solo un grupo indie a ser un grupo indie reconocido. Rompiendo el top 10 inglés, Chelsea Dagger les dio reconocimiento e hizo que el Costello Music se mantuviera por unas buenas semanas en el top 40 de Inglaterra. Tu-tu-ru.

En el 2005 eran vistos como uno de los grupos con más futuro y Sony los firmo basandose solo en un ensayo que un ejecutivo vio. Demoras, problemas pero al fin pudieron grabar su disco debut y el primer single que lo promociono fue este, lanzado en el 2004 y relanzado en el 2006, The Upper Room parecían tener un futuro brillante. Pero la constante proliferación de bandas hizo que el público no se fijara y el éxito los eludio. Hace un par de meses anunciaron su separación. Al menos nos dejaron un gran disco para recordarlos.

Primer single de Embrace en esta lista, claro pues no podían faltar con ese gran disco que sacaron! Otra de las pocas bandas que sacaron cuatro singles este año pero les adelanto, no había manera de poner World At Your Feet en esta lista así que no, no llegaran al record. Target fue desde antes de que saliera el disco, la canción mas comentada ya que Danny McNamara decía que era de sus canciones mas pegajosas que había escrito. Y si, aunque no tanto como el decía, pero sin duda, calidad.

The Young Knives hicieron su debut hace unos 5 años aproximadamente sacando un mini EP llamado The Young Knives….Are Dead. Surgidos del pueblo curiosamente nombrado Ashby-de-la-Zouch, fue en Oxford donde empezaron a llamar la atención y aunque tardaron, finalmente llegaron a tener un poco de reconocimiento fuera de la ciudad, contando a Dirty Pretty Things y The Rakes como grupos amigos de ellos. Fantástico single este, del disco Voices of Animals and Men.
