Originalmente, Of Monsters And Men era el proyecto de Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, cantante folk islandesa que decidió un día entrar a una competencia anual de bandas en Islandia. Como ella no era una banda, buscó amigos que la pudieran ayudar en el escenario, y fue cuando decidió mejor formar una banda completa y así es como nació Of Monsters And Men.
